Excellens is an amazing plant. It reminds me of a turtle back. Frilled lids, moderate contrasting venation. Older pitchers deepen to a reddish color. One of our favorite plants! CPR168

Nick-named "Miraville" in-house, this genetically interesting cross between N. mira and N. villosa would be for serious growers only as both parents prefer highland-like (humid with cooler temps) conditions; meaning this hybrid would be no different. With N. mira as the mother in this cross, vibrant warm coloring would be expected for the body. Similarly with N. villosa as the father, it's expected to see a toothier peristome. With both parent plants having a rounder pitcher shape, it's safe to say that this hybrid will as well. We would consider this an advanced level plant. *N. mira parent picture found off a Google search, N. villosa parent picture credit to Chien Lee*

This unique in-house cross #22022 is new to the market, and has a “starfish” like appearance due to the shape of its leaves and the pinkish coloration. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter. The leaves of this hybrid are elongated with rounded ends, starting out a bright yellow-green that comes from pinguicula mocetzumae, and colors up a nice pink under high light while keeping its “purple pits” indicative of ‘Faulisi’ regardless. We would consider this to be an intermediate-advanced level plant.

Pinguicula “Scrump” is a currently unknown hybrid that made its way into our collection and has become a fun one to grow. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter. The hybrid boasts full, round leaves that stay a neon-chartreuse hue of green. The flower itself is a bright pink with large, rounded top lobes and swooping lower lobes. The name comes from the color scheme, reminding us of Lilo’s voodoo doll, Scrump, in the movie Lilo & Stitch. We would consider this to be a beginner level plant.

Pinguicula macrophylla is a desired and yet challenging butterwort, but well worth adding into the collection. The species likes to go aggressively dormant, forming a tight rosette of non-carnivorous leaves and should be kept fairly dry when in this stage. When in active growth, the plant has ovular shaped carnivorous leaves that keep a light yellow-green color with a noticeable vein down the middle, and would appreciate being wetter or in a mossy mixture. The flower of p. macrophylla is what makes the critical care worthwhile; boasting a beautiful blue-purple hue lobes, with a white "tongue" like stripe flanked by dark purple spots near the throat. We would consider this an intermediate-advanced level plant.

A wonderful hybrid originally from California Carnivores, “John Rizzi” is a butterwort collection staple that isn’t in circulation much these days. It’s an easy grower that gets quite large, producing gorgeous, bronzy, undulating leaves with sparse, dark venation that are some of the most effective at catching fungus gnats and other small pests that we’ve seen. “John Rizzi” doesn’t flower often for us but the large, round-petaled, pink flowers are worth the wait. The parentage is unknown but this plant was famously crossed by a hummingbird at California Carnivores. Named by Peter D’Amato after, I believe, an employee who was working at California Carnivores at the time. The plant you will receive will be 1"-1.5" in diameter. We would consider this a beginner level plant.
