Carnivorous Plants for Sale

The poster child of the carnivorous plant world, Dionaea muscipula, also known as Venus flytraps, are the fascinating snappy insect-munchers that fantasies are made of. With hinged jaws, digestive enzymes, and the ability to count, flytraps defy common perceptions about plants. Your purchase includes one of the plants featured here. It’s a mature specimen and is shipped bare root. Venus flytraps are temperate insectivores and originate from the Carolinas where they experience a winter dormancy and spring and summer growth. During winter dormancy, leaves are trimmed back. Come spring, they explode back to life with new trap growth and represent the featured photo.

Darlingtonia Californica is native to the Oregon Coastline and Southern interior and Northern California coast line.  These plants prefer cool nights.  With days occasionally up in the 90's with no greater than 70F root temperature, they still get 50F night temperatures.  Most of these plants have some sort of cool moving water over their rhizomes.  We have the best results planting these in pure sphagnum moss.  You can also use peat moss and perlite. Be sure not to keep them sitting in stagnant water, they deteriorate when this happens. This size of plant grows best in a 3-4 inch size pot, 2-3 years away from flowering size.

Drosera gemmae are shipped wrapped in moist paper towels and plastic packs to avoid drying out, shipped via USPS First Class mail. US shipping only. This complex hybrid from Jerry Addington is a stunner. Plant sports wide open lids, like a Catesbaei, petit erect tubes, and a burgundy coloration with slight veining inside of the lids. Plant is currentlyly in a 4 inch pot and has 1 growth point. The plant in the picture is the exact plant for sale. Not a division, but the entire plant. I currently ship Plants out on Mondays and Thursdays, Because I don’t like for plants to sit over the weekend. So please allow a few days before shipping. I ship all plants bare root wrapped in moist paper towel. Due to county regulations, it is illegal for me to ship plants potted. I leave the pitchers on (except during dormancy) and do my best to ship with as little damage as possible. However, I cannot guarantee that the leaves or flowers will arrive undamaged. They are delicate after all. CPR154

This species tends to develop short, slender upright stems up to a foot tall, with leaves often no more than 2" in length and often flushed throughout in rich red color. The stem is topped often by a cluster of bright purple flowers with pale backs and heavily serrated petal edges. Like most Byblis, they require cross-pollination to produce seeds and do best with lots of room for the roots to spread. Packets contain approx. 10 seeds. Seeds do require special treatment (GA3 solution, smoke treatment, or similar) to germinate. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class or Priority). US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.

Byblis are uncommonly grown as is, hybrids even rarer especially as sometimes it's hard to get the cross to succeed. This particular hybrid however seems not only fairly easy to produce, but easy to grow as well thanks to the female parent. Exhibiting rapid growth, small and delicate flowers, and sometimes the self-pollinating traits of B. liniflora, it also sports serrated, darker purple petals, red flushes (sometimes, not always) in the stems and leaves, and a more slender, erect growth form like B. rorida. Packets contain approx. 15-20+ seeds each; seeds do require special treatment (GA3 solution, smoke treatment, or similar) to germinate.

A hybrid between the two perennial rainbow plant species, this is a large carnivores with leaves that can reach more than a foot in length on a thick stem that can also reach a foot or more in height over time (even branching with age). They can grow year-round if kept moist and cool enough, or may go dormant during the summer season, dying back to sprout again from the stem and roots. Flowers are huge, nearly 2" across and a brilliant violet coloration. Two or more different clones are needed to pollinate, but it is potentially a species that might be propagated via stem cuttings. Current stock includes primarily seeds of a backcross to lamellata.   Packets contain 8-10+ seeds; this is a fire-adapted species that needs special treatment to germinate, a 4-6 day soak in 500-1000 ppm GA3 solution recommended.

The perennial rainbow plants are an uncommon sight in cultivation, and the hybrid is among the easiest versions to grow! These plants can grow leaves that are over a foot long on an extended rosette or branching stems that can reach 2-3 feet in height, all parts of the plant covered in tiny glands. Under proper conditions (seasonal, hot in summer and cool in winter, with heavy feeding), plants may enter a several-month long blooming season and can hold half a dozen or more 2-inch flowers at a time, the petals with mildly serrated edges and a metallic pink-purple color. Plants often appreciate Osmocote pellets put 2-3 inches under the soil, and should be planted in large pots. This is a great opportunity to grow one of the perennial giants without having to deal with treatment of the seeds or damping off of seedlings; just upgrade to a large container. Available plants will typically be 3-7 inches tall, rooted shoots. This plant will be shipped POTTED, via USPS Priority mail; I typically ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid weekend hold-overs. US shipping only. Many plants are grown in high humidity conditions and may require acclimation, unless otherwise noted. If you are expecting weather that may be detrimental to the plants if shipped, please message me upon making your order! Shipping cost includes heat pack for winter conditions. If there are issues with the plants upon arrival, please contact me within 48 hours of receipt.

This is an excellent hybrid of the two perennial species of Byblis.  The mature plant is 1 year old.  You will be purchasing a tissue culture plant in sterile media.  Please note that the cultures are of this hybrid but you will only get one "tube", not a set of 5.  Wash the media off the plant and pot it up.  I suggest 3:2:1 perlite: sand:peat.  Keep the humidity high while the plant acclimates and keep shaded until it acclimates.  You can divide these prior to potting if you wish to make additional cuttings. Shipping is $12 for Priority Mail delivery regardless of the quantity of plants ordered from my shop.
